My Brief Book Reviews

I have completely read these books and so I think that they are really good - unless I have made comments otherwise. (Other opinions may vary!)

The Last Days of The New Yorker

by Gigi Mahon

The New Yorker was more or less a "family run" operation from when it was founded in the 20's until it was bought in 1983 by Conde Naste Publications (who still own it.) This book (written in the mid-80's) was about the history of the magazine and why it was sold and how many people didn't like the fact that it was being sold to a large conglomerate which would most likely kill its soul. I've never read an early New Yorker so I can't say if it made a difference.

Brave New World Revisited

by Aldous Huxley

Much better than BNW. But Revisited is not a story, it's about his opinions of the state of the world in the middle of the 20th century which was the basis of the BNW.

The Natural History of the Mind

by Gordon Rattay Taylor

A nice book written about how we define what the mind is and how this compares to the research on the brain. The only caveat about the book was that it was published in 1977, though I find that much of what he says is pretty accurate. I think it should be used as a text book in Psychology 101 courses.
