My Brief Book Reviews

I have completely read these books and so I think that they are really good - unless I have made comments otherwise. (Other opinions may vary!)

(Henri) Matisse the Master: The Conquest of Colour, 1909-1954

by Hilary Spurling The wonderfully written and fascinating second and final book about the last half Matisse's life. Ms. Spurling really did in-depth research - having access to his letters and other private papers to really give us a sense of his life. Very nicely done.

Accidental Genius

by Richard Gaughan

It's about how people in history (most often scientists) were faced with failed experiments or mistakes but instead of discounting the results would see what they could do with the new result.

The first part reads like a pre-high schooler book and the information was often too brief. The later (more recent) discoveries were much more thorough.

They used two print types that are too small and one of them is just difficult to read. Bad choices.
