My Brief Book Reviews

I have completely read these books and so I think that they are really good - unless I have made comments otherwise. (Other opinions may vary!)

This Is Your Brain On Music

by Daniel Levitin

Nice book about the physiology and psychology of music. I read these three books before I left Moab for Paris so I have forgotten about the contents but all three are highly recommended.

The Omnivore's Dilemma

by Michael Pollan

This guy follows the sources of four meals; one fast food, second an organic meal, third from a sustainable farm (not only organic but more) and then a meal that he picks and hunts in the wild. For me, the surprise is that the organic meal isn't necessarily as good for the environment as I thought it would be. The nice thing about this book is that he really gets into the ethics and morality about food sources at all levels and he brings up good questions about this subject.

The End of Faith

by Sam Harris

A very complete book about why religions allow for the violence to continue in the name of religion. Generally, I find a number of weak arguments in books like this but I only found one. He thinks it is OK to fight the so-called "War" on Terror in the name self-defense. I think it has and will continue to backfire on the West.
