My Brief Book Reviews

I have completely read these books and so I think that they are really good - unless I have made comments otherwise. (Other opinions may vary!)

The Silent Language / The Hidden Dimension

by Edward T. Hall

Two books by an anthropologist written in the late 50's and mid-60's so some of the things written are naturally a bit dated but nonetheless these two are also very important books really about psychology that should be read in every Psycho 101 class. The talk about how we communicate outside of the spoken word - though in The Silent Language, he does speak quite a bit about language.

The Human Zoo

by Desmond Morris

This is a book that should be the basis of every psychology 101 class. There are a few spots where he doesn't quite get it right. For example, in Status And Super-Status in says "...for each individual his social pseudo-tribe provides one more sphere in which he can assert himself and express his leadership." Even though many people do that (more than we would like to think that we do!) not everyone does it for that reason.

It's important to remember that the book concentrates on the reasons for human problems, why the world is in such a "mess" that it is today.
